This is the site where Rocks Rule!

Welcome to SnazzyRocks

I love to create Jewelry from rocks.  My jewelry is created using personally shaped cabochons and cabochons I have acquired from several other artists. You will find wire wrapped jewelry and tumbled rock jewelry. You will find pendants, bracelets, occasional earrings, and at times, other stone art items using semi-precious gemstones from other artists. Each one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry is created with a ton of love, a lot of time, and a pinch of patience.  Not all rocks are created equal. Each type of rock will tell it's own story. One that I hope you will treasure and enjoy. When you wear a SnazzyRock pendant, you know it's truely exceptionable and there will not be another one exactly like it, anywhere.

SnazzyRocks Jewelry shows that rocks rule!

Earth's Natural Beauty Lies Within the Rocks

Have you ever wondered what the inside of a rock looks like? Did you ever think rocks would make great jewelry? Most people pick up a rock and throw it away. I pick up a rock, and examine the outside. Sometimes the outside will tell you what's inside. But not always. The outside might be rough and have a lot of matrix on it. But if you look closer, you might find seams where nature has cemented pieces together. Now, if you take that rock and cut it with a wet saw and diamond blade, you might find layers of color or blotches or lines or just about anything. Some rocks are filled with clear or colored agate, some have swirls and others could be one solid color. After you see the inside of a rock, you will begin to see the wonderful jewelry that can be made from them.

Now you can not just cut the rock and say, Oh how shiney! Oh no. You must put some time into that rock by slabbing it, then drawing a shape on it. Trim the excess from the edges of the design with a wet saw or grinder. Now you are ready to transform that rock into a piece of jewelry. You must use several sizes of diamond grit to shine a rock. One of the many ways to do this is with a arbor that has 5 or 6 different wheels of grit, commonly called a Genie. With this machine you don't have to change the wheels out after each stage. I use a slant flat lap. It has the same type of grit wheels, only they lay flat. With this unit, you change each wheel after each stage. You usually start with an 80 grit diamond, then go to 120, 300, 500, 1000. As you go through the sizes, you are grinding or polishing off the scratches of the previous wheel. Then you start to polish the rock. Using 1,200, 1,400, 3,000 and finally a buffing pad and 5,000 grit diamond paste. When you have finished, your rock will become a fabulous cabochon ready to be made into a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry.

Now that you have an idea of how my jewelry begins, you see the love, patience, and over all time it takes to make one beautiful pendant. All my pendants are made using gold filled wire, not gold plated. Gold filled wire will shine and remain beautiful for years. It will not chip or turn green. If it starts looking dull, just use a soft cloth and wipe it to bring the shine right out. Once the pendant is completed, the wires will be hard enough that you shouldn't have any problems with them bending or becoming mis-shaped. Your pendant will give you years of enjoyment and when your friends see it, they will want one too. So be sure to tell all your friends to check out SnazzyRocks, where rocks rule!
